I love/hate this piece ‘The four of you‘ from @justinadamwise. The idea that when you are in conversation with just one other person, there are actually another two characters there. Uninvited characters…. As we talk to another, especially when the stakes are high or our resilience is low, we think we are talking to another adult – but in reality our inner critics are often talking amongst themselves, and triggering our automatic thoughts and behaviours. Next time you think a conversation hasn’t gone as you hoped, pause and ask yourself – what was my inner critic up to? What might their inner critic have been up to? What do I want to do next?
