A woodpecker

Oh, I wish I had a woodpecker
that could, oh so persistently
tap away at the bark around parts of my mind
where old opinions and judgements lurk
as if set in plaster, yet waiting to be cracked open
releasing space for new truths and possibilities to stir.

Oh, I wish I had a woodpecker
that could, oh so tenderly
tap away at the bark around parts of my heart
where old would and stories lay
like fresh grubs waiting to be consumed
leaving space for the new tales to grow.

While I’m waiting for my woodpecker
I will keep on tapping away myself.
Gently and persistently peeling away the bark
so the light of day can consume the old tales of smallness,
creating wide open space for a new and bigger me.

Oh, I wish I had a woodpecker

That could oh so persistently

tap away at the bark around parts of my mind

where opinions and judgements lurk

as if set in plaster waiting to be cracked open

releasing space for new truths and possibilities to stir.
