Fed up with vague agreement?

This topic came up in some recent coaching with a Senior Executive who was facing some challenges with a new team.  He had picked up a pattern of half hearted commitments and then poor or non-delivery.

While exploring the issue it became clear that the Executive was giving people a chance to say no – yet instead they were choosing to make commitments like “I will try” “If I get a chance I will give it a go” but never “No“.  In our discussion he started to explore how he could make sure he was being super clear on expectations, ask what support was required and then ask for a clear commitment – and risk getting a “No“.  First try was uncomfortable – but successful.  What works for you?
