Your being small doesn’t serve the world

I’ve noticed a new theme coming up with clients recently ‘not showing off‘.  It has come up in different ways – in presentations, interviews, meetings and conversations.  When I probed this it materialises that what it inadvertently meant was not letting their skills show through, underplaying their achievements in case, and I quote “they think I’m a smart arse“.

What a terrible shame.  How amazing it would be to see the skills and abilities that these clients have and indeed we all have.  I was reminded of the great Marianne Wilson poem ‘Our Deepest Fear‘ – in particular “Your playing small does not serve the world“.

Are you playing small?  If so, why and how does it serve you and others?  If you think it might be time to try something different – get in touch.
